Decision to offer unchipped versions opposed by Microsoft

Due to public pressure, Moderna has created unchipped versions of their 2026-2027 Covid vaccines.

Individuals may request either the chipped or unchipped version of the vaccine at all locations that offer Covid-19 vaccinations.

Microsoft fearing a significant loss of tracking information from individuals opting for unchipped vaccines is encouraging use of the chipped version. As part of their marketing strategy, Microsoft is offering a free trial of Microsoft Office for home use on up to five devices, as well as 2TB of cloud storage on Microsoft’s One Drive for anyone getting the chipped version of the vaccine.
